Psalm X

The Righteous and Wicked Contrasted

In this Psalm, we see many elements from previous Psalms combined. Today we will look at verses 3-11 and see what the wicked look like and then we will test our biblical knowledge in finding verses and passages that describe what the righteous ought to look like. We look at the bad to see what the good ought to be. Many times, we learn best by seeing the wrong.

If you had to describe the characteristics of the Christian life, what would you list? What would you deem to be essential characteristics and markings of the Christian life?

3 Boast of the Lord; Praises and Exalts the Lord

Psalm 20:7- Some boast in chariots and some in horses; but we will boast in the name of the Lord our God.

1 Cor. 1:29, 31- that no man should boast before God. . .that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

2 Cor. 12:9- And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

4 Humble themselves before the Lord; Seek the Lord; Acknowledge the Lord

1 Cor. 13:4- and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant.

Psalm 42:1- As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for Thee O God.

Deut. 4:29- But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.

Matt. 6:33- seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

2 Chr. 34:3- For in the eighth year of his reign while he was still a youth, he began to seek the God of his father David.

5 Recognize the judgment of God; Pray for those who hate you/Live at peace

Romans 14:10; 2 Cor. 5:10; 2 Thess. 1:5; Heb. 9:27

1 Thess. 5:13- Live in peace with one another.

Rev. 18:20-Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her.

6 God decrees and upholds all leaders

7 The mouth of the righteous shall bring praises/blessings

Psalm 149:6- Let the high praises of God be in their mouth

Psalm 108:3- I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord, among the peoples; And I will sing praises to Thee among the nations.

Psalm 71:23- My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to Thee

8 He serves the helpless; the widows; the orphans

Luke 10- the Good Samaritan

James 1:27- This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress

9 Harmless as doves

Matt. 10:16- Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore be shrewd as serpents, and innocent as doves.

Gal. 6:1- you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness

Eph. 4:2- (entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,) with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love.

James 3:13- Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.

11 Work as though for the Lord

Col. 3:23- Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.
