Football, er uh, Soccer

I grew up playing soccer in a rec league in the Ft. Worth area. When I first started I played for Benbrook United. Didn't always play much but when I did I hated it. I played goalie. I couldn't stand for the ball to get by me. If I didn't play goalie I played sweeper. Now that was a position I enjoyed. I remember asking my coach, what is sweeper. "If the ball comes near you kick it as far as you can." Great Stuff! One year we won first place. It remained the tallest trophy I ever received.

Then I moved on to the Benbrook Eagles. The United went on to be in the Select league. They played on Sundays. So I continued with the Rec league. Many wonderful memories of goals from all over the field as I moved to Forward then back to wing midfielder. It became common place for me to kick the corners and watch with great joy the ball bouncing off of a teammates head into the goal. Penalties will always be greatly remembered. Especially the game we lost 8-1. That poor goalie. We received a penalty, and when I kicked the ball, the goalie didn't move. His eyes were as big as his head as the ball came flying to his midsection. Thankfully the ball came right back to me, and I easily scored.

Unfortuanately for me, I still live in the United States. The only football most people know requires helmets. Now there is someone I know that the Lord is using to reach professional soccer, er uh, football players. In the rest of the world, soccer stars are gods. Pray for the ministry of the Greenwich family as they seek to be light and mercy to the darkness of those in Milan. Also, Jason has had the great opportunity to have Bible Study with some professional soccer players. Pray for the Christians on these teams as they are witnesses of Christ to the lost. The Italian league has had a major shake-up with the game fixing scandal. Yet what an opportunity for the believers to testify to the truth through such a difficult time for many.

That All Peoples May Know Him.
